I have trouble writing bios, because I always want to begin them with, “It all started in a 5000-watt radio station in Fresno, California.” This may be why I no longer work in public relations.
Let’s give this a shot.
Hi! I’m Carey. I like to do stuff.
I grew up in Frederick, Maryland among cows, cul-de-sacs, and Civil War ghosts. Alone and with my brothers and friends, I wrote a lot of stories, made a lot of music, and put on a lot of shows.
I went to college in Baltimore, Maryland, at the Land of 1000 Nuns (not its real name). I studied English and music, worked for the music department, made a lot of noise, and occasionally took very silly road trips, with very silly people, to see a very, very silly band.
Now I live in Chicago, Illinois, with one husband, three guitars, and a not-quite-complete collection of Baby-Sitters Club books.
I make music and teach and write. (Follow the links to learn more.)
I also take the photographs for Erin Morgenstern‘s Flax-Golden Tales. You can see more of my pictures here.
I love old storybook land amusement parks, foofy coffee drinks, street art, and used bookstores.
I am taller in real life than I am online.
When I grow up, I want to be a Muppet.
